E-7: Grit Facility at Bay View Water Reclamation Plant
Status: Under Design
Waterway: Maumee River
Location: Bay View Water Reclamation Plant
Description:
- The grit removal facility at the Bay View Water Reclamation Plant was installed originally in the 1950s and renovated in the 1980s and 1990s. These grit facilities have exceeded their useful life, are deteriorated and need replacement
- A grit removal system was proposed initially at the East Side Pump Station to minimize grit deposition in the siphon under the Maumee River between the pump station and the treatment plant
- A cost analysis revealed it is more effective to expand and upgrade the treatment plant’s grit system than to construct the East Side grit system and upgrade the existing grit system at Bay View
- A design has been selected that allows for better hydraulic conditions which will improve grit performance now and will provide hydraulic flexibility in replacing primary tanks in the future
Potential Dates and Duration:
- Initiate Construction: Fall 2011
- Construction Complete: Winter 2014
