S-3: Highland SSES and Sewer Separation

Status: Under Design

Waterway: Swan Creek

Location: To Come

Description:

  • Separation of sewers in the Highland combined areas to remove all storm water flow from the area to the existing Swan Creek South Tunnel.  Removing the storm water flow will make tunnel storage volume available for flows from other areas, resulting in better performance of the tunnel system (i.e. less overflow volume and anticipated less frequent discharge)
  • Assumes all private property is served by properly separated systems, includes necessary work to remove cross connections, and ensure private property connections appropriately connect to future sanitary and storm sewers
  • Be sure all sanitary sewers have adequate capacity for peak sanitary flows
  • Protect storm water quality consistent with the City’s storm water management plan
  • Area predominately comprises the University of Toledo campus. A relatively large part of this area appears to be a two-pipe (separated) system, which then recombines to a single pipe

Potential Dates and Duration:

  • Initiate Construction: Early 2011
  • Construction Complete: Winter 2012
